Lincoln Cathedral has dominated the skyline of Lincolnshire for over 900 years. Built originally as a fortified Minster Church following the Norman Conquest of 1066, it was substantially rebuilt by Bishop Hugh in the late twelfth century following an earthquake. The East End was remodelled in the years following Hugh’s death to house his shrine and provided a significant centre for pilgrimage throughout the later Middle Ages.
